Another history of contemporary Mali (1956-1991)

From decolonisation in 1960 to the March 1991 revolution, four decades of social and political struggles have shaped Mali's non-consensual history. This book tells a mixed history, that of the multiple struggles waged by the women and men of this country who, despite the crackdown, rebelled, rose up and joined forces against the established order. The story presented here is the antithesis of the representations so far conveyed of this African country facing a deep crisis since 2012. Situated at the crossroads of gender history and the sociology of social movements, the book offers a novel analysis of the gender dynamics that permeate the forms of collective action and the way in which commitment contributes to changing gender relations in contemporary Mali. It will interest those who love to read about African history, dissent and gender-based struggles.
