Catherine Deneuve femme maison

Tohu Bohu

Following the film career of Catherine Deneuve from the 1990's to her most recent work, this book analyses the evolution of her onscreen persona. Thinking with the intervention into female identity made by Louise Bourgeois's "Femme Maison", it explains the recurring presence of domestic space in Deneuve’s films, and the strategies by which her work overthrows traditional patterns of male-female relationships and establishes her, with the passage of time, as the undisputed queen of French cinéma. Contributing to gender and actor studies, this book also draws upon the work of philosopher Stanley Cavell on Hollywood cinema.
