Recherches sur Hérodas/Hérondas

Aitia. Regards sur la culture hellénistique au XXIe siècle

Research on Herodas

The work of Herodas, which emphasizes a learned culture, the crossing of genres and brevity, is at the heart of Hellenistic aesthetics and deserves attention equal to that enjoyed by those of Callimachus or Theocritus. This volume brings together several articles which aim to highlight certain specific characteristics of the art of this poet, who has been rediscovered relatively recently, but has not been studied much in spite of everything. The perfectly artificial popular language of his writing, the vulgar character of the characters or the obscenity of certain situations were undoubtedly not foreign to this relegation.

This issue of the Aitia-journal collects the proceedings of an unprecedented workshop on the language of Apollonius of Rhodes.
