What does it mean today for a researcher to work with the concept of gender? Gender cannot be conceptualised in isolation. This is what is demonstrated by this book whose fourteen contributions cover disciplines as diverse as geography, history, literature, sociology, sports science, linguistics, social psychology, communication studies, education studies and philosophy.
On the one hand, conceptualising gender involves some cross-fertilisation between the disciplines, as exemplified above all by feminist epistemologies. On the other hand, it involves taking into account the multiplicity of power relations, which is made possible mainly through an intersectional perspective.
The multidisciplinarity of gender studies may already be a form of interdisciplinarity: gender would therefore be an intersection which would allow us to theorise different power dynamics, as well as to formulate reflexive interrogations, both inside and between disciplines. The book will, therefore, be useful to academics in the humanities who use the concept of gender and will also be of interest to all those who seek to unveil power relations.
