Forming part of a research project on the history of theories of word formation, this volume uses an historiographical approach to review the treatment of compound words in different linguistic traditions - Sanskrit, Greek, Latin, Arabic, Hebrew and German.
By approaching its topic in a transdisciplinary way which offers multiple viewpoint, this volume, designed for a readership of linguists, focuses on highlighting the similarities and differences in the way in which different linguistic traditions tackle the theoretical problem of word formation. In addition, the volume addresses the issue of compound words in the context of automatic language processing.
