This dossier explores a critical approach to "diversity" in its discursive and linguistic dimensions. It debates the meaning of "diversity", the different conceptions it encompasses, its uses, specific variations, in connection with the actors' strategies and in a plurality of enunciation contexts. The different texts aim to identify the imaginary realms at work in these discourses, the recurrences, gaps and debates, as well as the controversies around the definitions of “diversity”. The authors stress how semantic fuzziness fuels the fact that the notion operates as a formula and the circulation of this notion in different social spaces. The texts deal with the political space, the media space and corporate communication.
