Dwelling in the transnational
Space, work and migration between Java, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore

Indonesia is little studied in the sociology of new international migrations. However, by implementing a socio-anthropology of migrations, this book shows that the migrations of Indonesian workers to Malaysia and Singapore are key to the transformation of Southeast Asian societies and to the globalization of regional economies. Based on an ethnographic approach Loïs Bastide captures these circulations at the level of social actors, while at the same time describing their wider social, political, cultural and historical contexts. Thus he sheds light on transnational spaces linked to the practices of this "globalized precariat": while societies open up as an effect of migrations existences now unfold on a transnational scale. Understanding these transformations today requires describing different ways of living transnationally.
