Aragon, Ponge : Crossed Aesthetics

Confronting the works of Aragon and Ponge involves literary, political and anthropological issues. These two figures of twentieth-century literature, related to avant-gardes, from Dada and surrealism (Aragon) to Tel Quel (Ponge), briefly shared the communist commitment during the period of the Resistance. Their growing divergence in the post-war period and the relative inversion of the symbolic prestige granted to each constitute an object of investigation whose interest goes beyond the respective cases.

The investigation and reflection proposed in this book focus on situating aesthetic practices along a six-part path that combines literary history with the tools of reading theory. To the now widely accepted intertextuality one can add the notion of arrière-texte (with Aragonian connotations), which brings to light certain hidden dimensions of writing-reading. In an approach which this time is close to the pongian lexicon, the aim is to extend a writer-reader's word to a reader-writer counter-word.

Entering this dialogue from a distance, is not only trying to understand what differentiates the works and links them in depth. It is also, perhaps, by the oscillation between these two regimes of literary reading, attempting to develop, for one's own account, the human dimension.
