Ces nouvelles migrations, encore peu étudiées, sont présentées dans les médias comme une fuite des cerveaux. À travers une enquête ethnographique menée auprès d'Italiens récemment arrivés à Paris, ce livre en propose une autre approche, centrée sur le rôle de la famille. Les nouvelles migrations italiennes concernent en effet des jeunes diplômés issus d'une classe moyenne précarisée et très dépendants du soutien de leur famille d'origine. Trois ménages italiens installés à Paris ont été suivis pendant deux ans, ainsi que les membres de leur « parenté pratique » mobilisés dans leur vie quotidienne, et résidant en Italie, en France et en Europe. Le livre revisite ainsi le concept de famille transnationale, habituellement étudié dans le cadre des migrations en provenance du Sud global, pour montrer les formes spécifiques que prend cette dernière dans le contexte de l’intégration européenne. The new Italian migrations involve young graduates from a precarious middle class, who are highly dependent on support from their families of origin. Three Italian households living in Paris were followed over a two-year period, along with the members of their "practical kin" involved in their daily lives, and residing in Italy, France and Europe. The book revisits the concept of the "transnational family", usually studied in the context of migration from the global South, to show the specific forms it takes in the context of European integration.
