Topics in Political Discourse Analysis

Topic identification and description is a central theme in political discourse analysis, whether to study the content of electoral programs, the agenda setting of media outlets, or to uncover the discursive strategies of key political players.

The five contributions selected for this issue sketch a methodological landscape of topic analysis from the exploration of various corpora and an enhanced dialogue across the quantitative / qualitative continuum, as promoted by this journal since its conception in the 1980's. While the focus of this issue is explicitly methodological, the approaches outlined here test their relevance and applied value against various discourse types of the political arenas in France and Belgium.
