Le pouvoir des objets

Do objects have power? How do they contribute to the constantly renewed construction of social power relations? As part of the "material turn" in the social sciences, this book takes objects seriously, considering them as levers to grasp the mechanisms of power and domination that structure societies. It analyses their presence in space and shows that material objects are both operators and indicators of social inequalities. The contributions take into account the material dimension of domination. What's more, by highlighting neglected, banal objects or systems of objects, the texts reveal little-known forms of domination. The objects examined are highly diverse and embedded in different socio-cultural contexts. Bringing them together sheds light on forms of domination that derive from institutions, logics of social distinction and territorial appropriation.
